This is where Westlake differs from the unincorporated areas around it.
Westlake operates its own Building Department, located at 4001 Seminole Pratt Whitney Road. Roofing permits are issued by the City rather than by Palm Beach County, submissions go through the City’s permitting portal, and contractors are required to keep City-approved plans on site for inspections. A roofer unfamiliar with Westlake’s process can cost you weeks.
On wind standards: Palm Beach County is not in the High-Velocity Hurricane Zone — that designation covers Broward and Miami-Dade. Westlake sits in the Wind-Borne Debris Region under the Florida Building Code, with roofing assemblies required to carry statewide Florida Product Approval and meet Palm Beach County’s high-wind design requirements for this part of the county.
The practical consequence: a roof assembly approved for use here has been tested and documented for these conditions. We install to those requirements, pull the permit through the City, and see the inspection through.
